Air Pincham protested against the article, which he said was a breach of privilege. Mr Bony asked the House to decide whether it should take action to serve as a warning to the “ Argus”
for all time. Mr Service defended die “Argus,” und the motion which was before the House was eventually withdrawn. The Totalisat-or. In tlio Assembly last niglit a Bill to legalise the use of the totalizator was read a second time. Retrenchment Opposed. Sir Bryan O’Loghlen opposed the Government on their retrenchment, especially in that of the Law Department. Tlia Robinson Races. Sir Hercules Robinson late Governor of Hew Zealand, has arrived here on Lis way to England. The race meeting in honor of Sir H. Robinson is postponed until Monday. More (Jew &aws. Sydney, Sept. 16. It is announced that Mr P. A. Jennings, who was Executive Commissioner for the Sydney Exhibition, will - be appointed a Knight Commander oE St. Michael and St. George ; and that Mr John Davies, who was a prominent member of the New South Wales Com. mission, will be appointed a Commander of the same Order. Outrage by Solomon Islanders. There is later news to hand from the Solomon Islands, which confirms previous information regarding the wreck of the Ariel and the poisoning of the mate and seamen. It is reported that the captain and the rest of those who were on hoard have succeeded in making their escape from the natives. TJio Sorata a Total Jnoss. A delAt pk, Sept. 16. The Sorata has become a total loss. All hope of saving her is abandoned. The lower deck is now bulging, and fears arc entertained of her entirely breaking up.
