THE SHINGLE NUISANCE.

TO THE EDITOB. Sin, —Having occasion to travel southwards, I was impelled to stay a clay or two in your pretty little town of Timarn, and saw much to admire in its improvements and progress compared with most other towns in this island ; but what struck me most in the way of “ shop exhibits” was the grand array of boots and shoes in almost every alternate shop. This puzzled me much, until wandering into some of the adjacent streets off the main one, the why and wherefore was at once apparent. May I ask have your town authoritiesand bootsellers entered into a league with each other ? Do the former get a percentage on the destruction of these articles ‘i The wonder is you have not daily accidents through the rapid driving _of vehicles which I noticed, ami the dilliculty of getting over or through this shingle, bo your authorities know that beach shingle is what is known as alive, and will never set except in cement. Ploughing through this shingle destroyed tiic greatest part of my otherwise pleasant visit, which during the hot summer monhts close at hand, is not a very pleasant prospect for the perambulations of your citizens, and 1 am afraid Timarn will be remembered by me as the town of shingle. Yours, &c., A VISITOR.
