TIMARU BOROUGH COUNCIL.
An adjourned meeting was held last evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Jackson, Greenup, Sherratt, Boss, Gabites, Shepherd, and Gibson.
Seven tenders were opened and read for the survey of the Waterworks. It was resolved to forward all the tenders to the Chief Surveyor, requesting him to examine and recommend one for the acceptance of the Council, and return them at his earliest convenience. It was resolved to consent to the mortgage of sections Nos. 75, 245, and 02.
The modification of bye-law 13, to enable premises next tho theatre to be repainted was agreed to. Cr. Bruce apologised for his absence through illness, and asked that the notice of motion standing in his name should be proceeded with. i It was decided that the motion should lapse. lie tho waterworks, Messrs Dobson and Son reported that tho. late Sir Wrigg’s levels were found correct and satisfactory, and that tenders could bi invited for the hcadworks at once. They suggested the substitution for a large portion of the mains of Gin and 4in instead of 2-fin pipes, which would require a supply being ordered from Home or elsewhere. The 2i-in mains would be perfectly useless in the case of a fire or for extension to the suburbs. The also suggested that about 5G tons of syphons should be ordered by the outgoing mail, as they would be required at the head works very shortly. These alterations would involve an additional cost of £9OO, but they had provided for it in their contingency estimate, and they were confident that the whole work would be completed within the extent of the loan, and leave a balance to credit of about £OOOO. The plans &c. for the clam works were adopted, tenders to bo received till noon on September 20. Tho engineers were authorised to enter upon any lands within or beyond the Borough for tho purpose of making any surveys neccessary in connection with the works. It was decided to write to Ashburton re purchase of water-pipes, Cr. Greenup suggesting that communication on the same subject should be opened with the Thames. The Council then adjourned till Wednesday.
