QUARTERLY LICENSING COURT.

[Before R. Bcetham, Esq., R.M., H. Belfield, and T. W. Hail, Esqs., Commissioners.] TRANSFERS. A. 0. Gilmour applied for a transfer of the Opihi Hotel from Jos. Nelson to himself. Mr Onnshy appeared for the applicant. The application was "'ranted. J. Hurt applied for a temporary transfer of the Queen’s Hotel from T. B. Jones to himself. Inspector Render stated that the police knew of no objection, the applicant had held a license before at St. Andrews. The Bench granted the application, but in doing so reminded the applicant that the Queen’s had been built expressly for the accommodation of a certain class of customers, and the standard already established must be maintained. It would be to the applicant’s interest to conduct the hotel as a first class house, not only for his own profit and convenience, but also for the sake of the public. This concluded the business, one application being withdrawn and one application being - declared informal. The Bench saiil it was very gratifying to find that there were no complaints from the police with regard to the conduct of any house in the three districts.
