[Bv Tkucuuai'li.] THE LAND AGITATION IN IRELAND. A FALSE EEPOET. SEIGE OF OANDAHAE. Londojt, August 20. Preparations are being made for numerous land agitation meetings to be bold throughout Ireland on Sunday next. In the House of Lords to-day, the Eight Hou Earl Spencer, Lord President of the Council, admitted that the existing agitation in Ireland was dangerous to the peace of that country, but said it was not intended to proposed au} r special laws to deal with the difliculties, the present common laws being deemed sufficient for that purpose. August 21. In the House of Commons the Hares and Eabbits Bill has passed through Committee. Subscription lists have been opened for the .155,000 six per cent Auckland debentures. Calcutta, August 20. The report received yesterday that Ayoub Khan had attacked the citadel at Candahar, and had been repulsed, is now found to be devoid of foundation. August 21. General Stewart has arrived, and is quartered at Jellalabad. General Sir Frederick Eoberts passed through Ghuznee unopposed, but reports say that Mahomed Hassirn kept hovering on his Hank during the march.

The Supreme Commission which was appointed by the Czar in March last for the maintenance of the peace of llussia lias now been abolished. General Boris Melikoff, who was the head of the Commission, lias, as recently announced boon appointed Minister of the Interior. Washington, August 20. The Hon William M. Mervens, Secretary of State, has invited the other Powers to hold a conference in January next, with a view to adopting system for notifying the sanitary condition of seaports. Pekin, August 19. Chung How, the late Chinese Ambassador at St. Petersburg, who concluded the Knldja Treaty with Russia and was impeached and afterwards reprieved, has now been linally released by tlie Chinese Government.
