* S. C. Times Office. Monday Evening. Messrs Jonas, Hart and Wildie report a fair amount of business during the week. Fat Cattle—The market is amply supplied, with no diminution in prices here, although the Dunedin and Christchurch markets have, suffered a reduction. Prime beef is worth 25s per lOOlbs. Stoie Cattle —Continue in excellent demand. On the 17th inst., at Pleasant Point, and at Wai-iti, on the 19th inst., a considerable number of all kinds changed bands under brisk competition, with the following results Cows, in full milk and near calving, at from £7 10s to £l2 ; do, dry, from £5 10s to £7 ; steers and heifers, eighteen months to three years old, from £4 to £0 5s ; calves to yearlings, £1 6s. Sheep—Very little doing. Our transactions have been 167 cross-bred hoggets, at 10s 9d.
Horses—There is an improved demand for good draught stock. On Saturday the majority of the lots were sold at the following rates, viz. : Heavy staunch draughts, £lO, £4l, £44, and £49 ; medium do do, £22, £25, £29, and £3l; light do, £l4, £l7, and £l7 10s; hacks and light harness horses, from £5 15s to £23, according to description. Drays, ploughs, harrows and other farm implements realised satisfactory prices. Farm and Domestic Produce. —On Saturday a more than average quantity of produce changed hands at rates fully up to late quotations, viz.;—Potatoes, £2 10s to £3 per ton •, onions, Id per lb; carrots, 2s 9d to 3s 01 per bag ; bacon and hams, 7id to B.VI per lh; cheese (local daily), 4£d to old per lb ; Hour, £9 10s per ton ; bran, 3s 6d to 4s per bag ; fowls’ corn, 4s to 7a per bag; fowls, 5s per pair, and a pair of Houdans brought 18s. A large quantity of fancy and miscellaneous goods realised prices satisfactory to the vendor. Household furniture on the 19th inst, we held a large sale of household furniture and effects. With a few exceptions, every article offered was sold, the following being some of the prices obtained Drawing-room suite (in blue rep), £3O; dining-room suite (in hair-cloth), £2l; pier glasses, £8 and £9 ; pianette, by Dord, £33; walnut tables, from £7 to £9; drawers (colonial), plain and stained, £3 15s to £5 15s ; mahogany wardrobe, £2O; and other articles at equally good and satisfactory prices.
Messrs William Collins and Co. report holding their regular market and sale by auction of farm produce and general merchandise. 700 bags of produce were entered for sale, of which they placed 530. They quote Derwent potatoes, 40s to 45s ; seed do. 40s to 45s (the market is glutted with them); Hour, all faults, £7 ; do, good, £9 ; bran, 50s ; sharps, 75s ; onions, £8; butter, good, Old, inferior 5d per lb ; eggs, lOd per doz : lard, 5d per lb ; poultry, none offering ; hams, 7d per lb ; bacon, 6d per lb ; carcase pork, 3d to 5d per lb ; oats, Is Id per bushel; chick wheat, Is 6d per bushel; barley, no , demand. Boxes of tea, sugar, soap, jams, furniture, clothing, and a large quantity of sundries were quitted during the day at owners’ reserves.
