The crew turned in at It) the same night, hut an hour later one of the crew called the captain, and said the vessel was adrift near the rock. A kedge anchor was run out, but the line parted. An endeavor was next made to set the head sails so as to wear the vessel, but this was unsuccessful. On going aft the cabin was found to be on fire, and an attempt was made to extinguish it but without success, and the crew were landed on the Island. At daybreak next morning the crew proceeded to the vessel which was still burning, but they were unable to save anything. The fire is supposed to have been caused by r a stove which was in the cabin being knocked over and sotting fire to a tin of kerosene.
