IMPORTANT GOLD DISCOVERIES ON THE WEST COAST.
[Bv TnuamArii.] Wki.i.ixgton, July 24. The following letter has been received by the Minister of .Alines from Warden Alelvay at tireymouth : —“ln reply to your telegram of the 21st inst. re finding gold at Seventeen-Alile Ucacli, I have ascertained beyond a doubt that one party of four •obtained 2480zs 2dwts 4grs in sixteen working days. Borne other parties have made T 7, £B, and. £‘.f sterling per week. There arc about sixty’claims on the field more or less payable. The male mining population north of (Iroy, from Cobden to Pa/.orback, is about 370, and about 21)0 of those arc at Seventeen-Aide Beach on the sixty claims before mentioned. By tire courtesy of the Bank managers here, I am enabled to slate that since the Ist of Alaroh last they have purchased about 3111 oxs gold, which they knew came from SevcntccuAlile Beach, besides other parcels which they sa} 7 came from thereabouts. The quantity is principally from sample buyers for each Baud, and it must be borne in mind that during the period commencing the Ist March preliminaiy and non-productive works occupied considerable time ; in fact, some claims arc still tunnelling, etc., and not paying anything yet, although prospecting has proved them auriferous.”
