Eichardson presented a petition signed by 627 employees of the New Zealand Eailways, praying that the proposed reduction of wages might be considered. QUESTIONS. In answer to questions, Ministers stated that the Government would endeavor to avoid reducing the wages of the railway employees, below the standard ;'paid by private employers. The charges for mining surveys were not less than the actual cost. NEW BILLS. The Public Entertainments Prohibition Bill was read a first time. The Publie Health Act Amendment Bill was passed. The Taranaki Iron Smelting Bill was read a second time by 34 to 18, Mr Eollcston opposing it on the ground that the company had not fulfilled the conditions undertaken by them. POSTPONED. At the request of Mr Whitaker, Mr Sheehan’s motion to take the Native Commissioners’ report into consideration was postponed till Thursday. OTHER BILLS. The lire Brigades Bill and Hospitals Bill were considered in Committee, and reported with amendments. The House adjourned at 1,10 a.ra.
