Peferred to Works Committee. From Mr E. Smith, applying for a modification of Building Pcgulatious. Pefused. From the Per. Father Chataigner, applying for remission of rates on Homan Catholic School. Pefused. From .Mr IP W. Mills, Wellington, stating that he was in receipt of atelogram from his London agents, acknowledging receipt of cash for the amount of the Timaru debentures placed in their hands. Mr Mills presented an account for interest and balance on draft, and exchange, amounting altogether to £2Gt 12s lid. The Mayor thought the Council did not owe more than £TOO to Mr Mills. Gibson, seconded by Councillor Jones, and carried—“ That the Mayor and the mover be elected a Committee to enquire into the legal position of the Borough Fire Inspectors aud bring up recommendations and report at the next ordinary meeting. tkxukks. Proposed by Councillor (Gibson, seconded by Councillor -Jackson and carried—“ That the plans and specifications ol; improvements in Edward and other streets be received and laid on the table ; and that tiic Works Committee bo requested to examine them, and if approving them to call for tenders for the works, tenders to bo in by the next ordinary meeting of the Council.” TIIK hospital. Some discussion having taken place with reference to the medical officer of the above institution it was resolved—‘•That, after hearing the explanations of His Worship the Mayor, this Council is of opinion that it would bo detrimental to the Hospital patients to allow the .Resident (Surgeon to practise privately, and would respectfully ask the Commissioners not to entertain any snob request.”

THE RAILWAY STATION. In answer to a question, His Worship the Mayor said that he had ascertained from Government that it had no intenf ion of removing the railway station from its present site. RANK GULLY SEWER. It was resolved, on the motion of Councillor Greenup, seconded by Councillor Shcratt —“ That the Town Clerk bo instructed to enforce the payment of outstanding promised contributions towards (ho Hank Gully sewer construction.” NOTICE UF 3IOTION. Councillor Hruco gave notice of the following motion : —“ Thai the Council reduce tlic level of George street three feet opposite Barnard street, the grade to extend to the Great North Hoad ; the .stuff to be used to level Arthur street about the new Host Otllec ; also that Barnard street be graded up to the Presbyterian Church.” ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of ,CIBS Is lid were passed for payment, ,ClbM Us 9d of general, and BJ 7s 2d of waterworks account. The Council then adjourned.
