FOOTBALL.

A spirited match between a picked eleven, against the Timaru Football Club, came oil on Saturday. Bell commanded the picked team while Craig captained the Clubists, of whom there were fourteen.

Smith led the way by sending the leather into the Club’s goal, whence it was at once ejected, and sn exciting struggle ensued. Touchdowns and forcedowus ensued, followed by dropdowns on the part of the kickists, who rolled over each other like the breakers at Big-hunting Creek. The eleven were the lirst to secure a touch-down. After half time, the Clubists went refreshed to their work, and Jones scored a touoh-down, and narrowly escaped a goal. Again an exciting scrimmage ensued, leather went up and pants went down, and heels uppermost made the scene as romantic as it was interesting. The Club was unfortunate, for. overpowered by its opponents it had to submit to a couple of forecdowns, several of its members biting the dust as if to the manner born. Bell, Campbell, Brett, LeCren and Eicbbaum all cut a prominent figure, Bell securing a touchdown and Eichbaum, senr., a foeredown. The match went in favor of the eleven, but the lightweights of the Club shewed a good deal of pluck, besides going through a variety of difficult aerobatic movements without any expenditure of bonedust.
