(Defeat of tlxe Service Ministry. Melbourne, Juno 25

In the Legislative Assembly last night Mr Service’s Reform Bill was rejected by 43 to 41 votes. The debate was concluded by speeches from Mr Service and Mr Berry. The former said he refused to sacrifice the clause providing for the joint sitting of both Houses. Mr Bony briefly replied. Messrs Williams, Wrixon, Serjeant, and Gaunson, and Sir John O’Shannassy, who were at the time of the last general election looked upon as supporters of Mr Service’s Ministry, voted against the Bill. At the conclusion of the debate Air Service moved the adjournment of the House. It is expected Parliament will bo dissolved in consequence of; the defeat of the Ministry. Mr Williams gave notice of a motion in the Assembly yesterday, condemning the Government for threatening a dissolution while the discussion on the Bill was taking place. It is not known, however, whether this motion will be persisted in. Previous to the division taken place, the Corner party endeavored to effect a compromise, but were unsuccessful. The House was thronged last night, and there was much excitement at the result of the division.

A Cabinet Council was hold to-day. ft has been decided to ask for a dissolution. Mr Service the Premier, had an interview with the Governor, who will 'ire a reply (o-morrow morning.
