Informers Reprimanded.

At the Resident Magistrate’s Court (his morning, a charge of sly grog selling against Cato, a fruiterer, was dismissed, his Worship intimating that in no case would he convict unless the evidence of the informers agreed in every important point.
A Township Poisoned.
Asiibueton, June 25
There is great excitement in this township over the wholesale spreading about the streets of poisoned bread and butter. Twenty valuable dogs are already dead, and it is feared that young children may pick up the dosed food and die. The police are active, but unsuccessful, and large rewards are offered for the conviction of the guilty party. Educational. Dunedin, June 25. The Education Hoard lias resolved to take no action in the meantime as regards the appointment of a third in-s-pector. The Charge against BKr Conyers. The “ Times ” has the following : “We are informed, as regards Mr Conyers’ connection with Davidson,that it amounts to lending a certain sum of money in the business, at a fixed rate of interest, without participation in H . profits. Davidson has supplied us with a list of work done for the Railways at his foundry, during the last two years, amounting to 72 tons of castings, costing the Government £2O per ton. The price was fixed by tender. Mr Macandrew was . aware of the precise nature of the arrangement between Conyers and Davidson.”
A modified Proposal.

Consequent on the result of the poll rc £120,000 loan, notice of motion has been given to borrow £20,000 for street improvements and extension of the gas works. 4
