[Emm; it’s Agkxcy.j A Government Defeat. London, June 23. In the House of Commons, Mr Laboucherc introduced a motion to permit Mr JlradlaugU, who refused to take the oath, to make an allirmation instead. A long and animated discussion took place, which lasted two days. Mr Gladstone, (ho Premier, and several other prominent members of the Ministry supported the motion, which was, however negatived on a division being taken. The Conservative papers consider the result as a defeat of the present Government.

Tildcn has resigned the leadership of the Democratic party in America. This step is taken, it is believed, as a preliminary to his withdrawing his candidature in (he Presidential election.
