ALARMING ACCIDENT.
This morning about ton o’clock an alarming accident occurred to Mr James Campbell, farmer, of Pareora. Mr Campbell Avas driving into town along the Main South Road, in a spring cart, in company with Mr George Russell when at the corner of North street the wheel of the vehicle came in contact with the kerbing, and instantly capsized it. Mr Russell was thrown out and Mr Campbell, who was driving, fell under tho cart, one edge of which was across his logs, and in this uncomfortable and dangerous position he was dragged across the road, when the horse, a young and spirited animal, pulled up, and Mr Campbell was rescued by one of tho bystanders, and conveyed into Shepherd’s grocery store. He was found to have sustained no very severe injury although his face was much cut and lacerated, and his legs severely bruised. Mr Russell escaped with a bad shaking. The cart was somewhat damaged, one shaft and one splashboard being broken. The affair attracted a very large number of bystanders, and it was generally acknowledged that Mr Campbell and his friend had experienced a very narrow escape.
