A LEAP-YEAR INCIDENT.
Not mauy miles from San Juan —not more than fifteen—resides a young farmer, not over twenty-five years of age. Ho has considerable of the requisite—the coin. Up to Avithin a A r ery short time he had led a lonely life but thanks to the year 1880, which has proved his salvation, a young lady has proposed to him and ho is now enjoying her society as his Avifo. The following is the way it Avas brought about. The young man had every qualification for a business man, but not withstanding all this Avas extremely bashful, and blushed clear to his cars every time ho caught sight of a young lady. _ Morcover, he imagined lie Avas a fright to behold, and no girl would condescend to look Avith favor upon him. In fact it was his opinion that he Avas destined to lead a life of single blessedness all the days bo might Avandcr about this terrestial sphere. One day however he stopped at the house were resided a lovely girl. She had seen how shy he was on every occasion, and became infatuated with the pedler of apples and garden truck, and she Avas determined that the ice should be broken as leap year bad arrived, which ga\ T c her every privilege, in this particular, granted to the sterner sex. The ynuing lady therefore Avalked up to him, as be stood by the avcll, and calling flic young man by bis given name, asked liim Avby bo did not get married. He replied, Avith characteristic non-esteem, that he didn’t think there was anybody avlio Avould have him. “ Why,” replied the young lady, with great fervency, “ I will have you.” The young man turned red and stammered by turns, but finally he did manage to tell her “ All right.” Arrangements were made at once for the marriage ceremony, and in loss than a Aveek they Avcre living together as man and Avifo, happy as birds in a nest.—“ Ban Juan (Nevada County) Independent.”
