SUPPOSED INFANTICIDE.

At the Magistrate’s Court, Baclutlia, yesterday, Isabella Hamlyn Avas charged with the murder of her new-born infant, at Stirling, on March 6. Evidence Avas given as to the finding of the body in a water-closet at the Stirling hotel on April 11 ; also, that the accused had gone to the hotel on March G and remained till the 9th, Avhen nothing remarkable Avas to be noticed, but some blood stains Avcre found in her bedroom after she left. Dr Read, of Milton, made a post-mortem examination, and gave it as his opinion that the child had breathed, but could not say Avhcthcr it had been born alive. The accused entered the service of Mrs Fingard on February 15, Avhen she gave her name as Jessie Campbell. She left on the Gth March, as she said, to go to the Hospital,as she Avas pregnant, and made no effort to conceal it. She was in the service of Mrs Porter, South Tokomairiro, from November Ist to the end of January, Avhen she left, as she said, to go to her mother. Airs Porter hud spoken to her about her condition, and agreed to take her back after she had given birth to the child. She accordingly returned on March 19th, and remained till apprehended. A number of Avitncsses have yet to be examined, and accused Avas remanded till Saturday to Tokomairiro. Mr Reid, who appeared for accused, asked that she be admitted to bail. The application ay as granted, herself in £IOO, and tAvo sureties of £SO each.
