WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the .Council was held yesterday. Present—The Mayor, Crs. Middleton, Slicrwin, Cameron, Hayes, Black, Gascoync, Evans, Goldsmith and Price. Betters were read from the Town Clerk, Christchurch, re Charitable Aid proposals, and consideration was deferred ; from the Crown Lands Office assenting to occupation of lleservc No. 1354 for pound purposes but refusing to Crown Grant it; from Hon. Stud holme promising to endeavor to got the Council represented on the Timaru High School Board ; from Foreman of "Works objecting to his pay being deducted for Good Friday. Or. Hayes and several members expressed the opinion that no deduction should be made. After considerable discussion Cr. Hayes’ motion objecting to the sale of reserve leases at one time, and at present when money is scarce, was lost. It was resolved to invite applications for a pound-keeper, and to call for tenders for several Public Works.

The half-yearly balance-sheet was read and adopted. Accounts amounting to £125 6s 3d were passed. It was resolved to call a spec’al meeting to hear objections to the burgess roll. The meeting then adjourned.
