SALE OF RACING PRIVILEGES.

— - Messrs Jonas, Hart, and Wildio submitted to auction the privileges in connection with tbc forthcoming Timaru Faces, at their rooms, this afternoon. There -was a large attendance, and in many instances a good deal of competction. The prices realised, taking them altogether, may bo considered as very satisfactory indeed, and a marked improvement on those obtained last year ; indeed when everything is calculated, it will be found that something over £2OO has been secured by the sale of the privileges this year, more than was last year obtained. The first lot disposed of was the rigid- to sell wine beer, spirits and luncheon, at both bars under the grand stand, for the two days. £lO was offered to start this privilege, and it was ultimately knocked down to Mr T. Fichmond, of the Melville Hotel, for £l6. Lot 2, the right to sell wines, beers and spirits, sandwiches, and other refreshments at Booth Ho. I, was then put up. It started at £3O, and after some very spirited bidding was knocked down to Mr Jas, Thompson for £66. Ho. 2, Booth with right to sell wines beers and spirits, refreshments Ac., was started at £lO, and knocked down to Mr George Painter for £ ID. Tito solo right| to erect refreshment booth on the ground, including the hawking of refreshments about the course Ac., was sold for £22. The right to dispose of race cards on both days’ at Is apiece was started at £ls, and knocked down to Mr Harry Gardener at £22. The Gates were started at £IOO, and were knocked down to Mr Leslie at £l5O. The right to erect horse-yards was disposed of to Mr Harry Cornelius for £5. The right to run such games as the police may allow—not including the totalisator —was started at £5, and knocked down to Mr Jlurcombe at £ll. The takings for admission to the Grand stand were bought in at £IUO. The last privilege put up was the right to run two Tutalisators on the course, and was also purchased by the Committee for £SO. The total amount realised to-day by (Ids years sale of privileges including items purchased by the Committee amounts to £52.1, as against i'b.'Uj realised last year. The Club may therefore be congratulated on having disposed of its privileges to excellent advantage.
