DUNEDIN FACES. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] First Day—Thursday, Due. 20. The following is a continuation of our report of the first day’s events : The Cur Eace. Mr Eay declared to win with Titania, and Mr Eobiuson with Grip. Betting—Even agst Titania, 3 to 1 Mata, 4 to 1 Grip, 6 to 1 Foul Play, 7 to 1 Libeller, 10 to 1 Hornby and Betrayer, 100 to 6 Oamballo, Longlands, and Atlantic. Ten faced the starter. After a couple of preliminary trials Dodson started the lot pretty evenly. Libeller jumped oil: with the lead, followed by Atlantic, Grip next, Titania and Caraballo being close up, and Longlands last. The leaders remained without noticeable alteration till nearly the finish of the first round, when Titania closed up to Libeller, and her rider made ineffectual attempts to get inside the running. At this time the sight was a pretty one, as a blanket "could have covered the first six horses Passing the stand the second time Titania had a slight lead. Mata now improved his position, being fourth, with Foul Play heading the rear division. Opposite the stand Mata came up strong, replacing Libeller, but Titania kept the lead till near the straight, when Mata closed on her, and Foul Play taking third in that order, and amid immense excitement raced up the straight, whips being freely used.
