The weather is very dull owing to a heavy fog hanging over the hills, but there is little likelihood of rain. The Governor and Lady Robinson arrived on the course early in the day, and were received by the officers of the club, and conducted to a portion of the stand reserved for them. Natator was scratched for the Cup early this morning. There arc two Totalisators at work, and they arc fairly patronised. The principal one was to have been stationed in the paddock, but it did not put in an appearance. When the iirst event started, at one punctually, there were 2000 persons on the course. As usual, the sandhills at the back of the course arc extensively patronised. The following were the events : The Free Handicap, of GO sovs. One mile. Mr P. Butler’s ch m Luna, ay is .. 1 Hon. AY. Time—l min. 48 sec. The Dunedin Cur, a handicap of 500 sovs, with a sweepstake of 10 sovs cadi added. The second horse to receive 50 sovs, and the third 20 sovs from the stakes. Two miles and a distance. The winner of any handicap race of the value of 200 sovs, after declaration of weights, to carry 71b extra ; of two or more of such races, 10lh extra. Of any such handicap race of the value of 100 sovs, to carry 51b extra ; of two or more such races, 81b extra ; of two or more such races of the value of 100 sovs, together with one of the value of 200 sovs, 01b extra.
