THE FRENCH CONVICT SCARE.

,„tf;TO TltK EDITOR.] Sin.—There Inis boon no little fuss in Australia and Xew Zealand about the landing- of a few Xew Caledonian exconviets to corrupt the people of the iifth quarter of the earth. I believe yon have observed this to be the case by referring- to it recently. There is no doubt the steps taken are not very desirable but I would advise true colonists to have but little to do with the agitation without

iirst getting an explanation of the following :—What induced this country or its hard-headed authorities to let loose Sullivan, the "West Coast murderer ? In doing s'o they did more than enough to perpetuate crime for the next thousand years. It is a question if any Government can improve on that dastardly action. To let loose a man of that sort to compete against humanity and breed hell upon the earth was simply revolting. When it can he explained how the liberation of Sullivan, the West Coast murderer, is going to work out the millennium it will be time to question the effects of the communists with a recommendation to quit our land of innocence. By inserting, the above you will much oblige ADAM VICTORIOUS.
