CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

An ordinary meeting of the above was hchl this afternoon. Present — Messrs Archer (Chairman), Sutter, Evans, Roberts, Woolleombe, Tait, Cain, Gibsou, Sealey, Rutherford, Moody, Bellield, Dr Luvegrove, Dr Hammond, and Green. It was resolved that the secretary write to the Postmaster-General respectfully asking the Government to supply a suitable clock as provided for in the contract to be placed in the tower now being built at the new Post-olliee, Timaru, the contingency fund for this purpose having been absorbed in other extras. The half-yearly meeting was subsequently held. A letter was read from the Stamp Department, intimating that it was not intended to establish a Stamp Ollice in Timaru. Resolved, that the applcation re cs tablishiug a register ollice for deeds and stamps be again renewed through the members for the district of South Canterbury. That the attention of the Government be drawn to the Fact that Timaru stone can be delivered at the reclamation works for the sum of ftsppr yard, whereas it is being brought from Lyttelton a distance of JOO miles, and railage alone to Ashburton is now charged 30s per ton. That Messrs Rutherford, Sealey and Roberts be asked to draw up a comparative statement of the cost of supplying stone to the reclamation works and railway line at Wales Creek and forward the same to the Minister of Public Works with the foregoing resolution. Several accounts were passed and the meeting adjourned.
