DESTROYING THE HARBOR
TOWN EDITION.
[to the editor] . Siu, —In taking my customary stroll to the Breakwater this morning, I noticed that workmen were /busily employed removing clay from the bank adjoining the railway station site, and depositing it on the north side at the commencement of the Breakwater. Many hundreds of tons have been so deposited before and have been invariably washed away by the waves to the detriment of the harbor. ■ It is a matter for wonder that the mischief of throwing clay into the sea and filling up the sheltered side of the Breakwater having been so clearly demonstrated it should still be persisted in. Why not throw the clay on the top of the shingle to the south of the Breakwater and thus assist the reclamation area besides making a good road for traffic ? —I am &c., Shingle.
