[Reuter’s Agency.] Stonewalling Tactics. London, Jan. 21. —It is understood that the Home Rulers in the House of Commons resolved to prevent Work during the present session with the object of obtaining increased attention to the state of affairs in Ireland. A Mining Massacre. A terrible explosion occurred to-day at the Leycett colliery, Staffordshire. Seventy-nine miners were killed. American Sympathy. A resolution to vote the Irish Distress Fund a half a million dollars by Congress was referred to a committee. Bip-van-Wlnkle Colonising. Berlin, Jan. 21.—1 tis stated here that Germany intends to acquire some of the South Sea Islands in order to increase her influence in the Pacific. Dr Richard Krnl, who has gone to Sydney, has been appointed ConsulGeneral of the German Empire for Australia. The “ Times’ ” Berlin telegram states that Bismarck will support the Polynesian Company.
