THEATRE ROYAL.

Our old friend Mr J. P. Hydes and his Gem Burlesque Company opened at this place of amusement for a short season of three nights last evening. The entertainment was a really good one, and was greatly enjoyed by all present. The popular farce “A Hiss in the Dark” was the first piece on the. programme, Mr J. P. Hydes sustaining the character of the jealous Pettibone with all his accustomed humor, being ably supported by Mr Stark, Miss Amy Johns and Miss Madge Herrick. Part 11. served to introduce the pantomime burlesque entitled “Mazourka,” which, with pretty drosses, pretty faces, good acting, dancing singing, and mounting, could hardly fail to be a success. A really good panoi’ama comprising views of Home and Colonial scenery, added not a little to the attraction of the entertainment. The Harlequinade followed, and the drolleries of the clown (Mr Wilkinson) and the pantaloon (Mr Ashton), and the graceful dancing of Miss Amy Johns as columbine, Miss Vincent as harlequin, and Miss Herrick as harlequina, brought a most pleasant evenings entertainment to a conclusion. We must not forget to add that Mr Walter Hydes presided at the piano in his usual efficient manner. This evening the Company appear again when a fresh programme will be submitted.
