TIMARU MECHANICS’ INSTITUTE.

The ordinary monthly meeting of! the Institute Committee was held hist night. Present—Messrs Jas. Scott, President, (Chairman), James Bruce, Bobert Mackay, Thomas Harney, Thomas Gordon, John Jackson, B. B. Taylor, W. White and H. W. Hammond. 11 The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary, Mr Bead, reported that there were some members in the habit of using the reading room and library who did not appear from the books to have paid subscriptions, and as they were not life members, he was instructed to apply to the same for payment of subscriptions due. Besolved that a new catalogue be compiled and issued upon (he arrival of the next parcel of new books from Homo. The Secretary was also instructed to procure the “ Australasian Sketcher.” It was resolved that a large quantity of illustrated newspapers at present on hand should be sold. A Sub-Committee consisting of Messrs Scott, Hammond, White, and Taylor were appointed to prepare a list of and order £oo worth of new books from London. The Secretary was instructed to notify a certain member, reported to be in the habit of removing paper's from the Beading Boom table, that such practices arc contrary to the rules and regulations of thejlnstitute. A second Sub-Committee consisting of Messrs Sterricker, White, Taylor, Bruce and Gordon wore then appointed to make arrangements for holding a bazaar for the purpose of raising sufficient funds to liquidate the debt amounting to £330 incurred to the Building Society. The Secretary was instructed to write to the librarians at Dunedin and Christchurch and ask for copies of the catalogues in use at each of these libraries. It was also resolved to procure a notice board for the library and some other necessaries.

Accounts amounting to £2O 7s 0d were then passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
