BOROUGH COUNCIL.
TOWN EDITION.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council took place last night. Present —His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), and Crs. Gibson, Shepherd, Gabites, Jones, and Bruce. The following correspondence was read : From Mr R. Rutherford, asking the Council’s sanction to build certain additions to a house on LeCrcn’s Terrace. The application was not granted, as it was not in accordance with the building regulations. From the Treasury, Wellington, stat : ing that the sum of £l2 15s had been placed to the Council’s credit in the Bank of New Zealand. From Messrs P. Cunningham and Co., asking the Council’s sanction to certain additions being made to their Strathallanstrect store. The Council could not comply with the request, as it was against the building regulations. Tne following statement of accounts was then submitted by the Clerk:— Overdraft, £966 6s ; disbursements that night, £l7B 12s lOd ; total, £1144 18s lOd ; assets, £5460. It was then proposed and seconded —“ That the Town Clerk be authorised to publish a notice of the valuation roll for the Borough being open for inspection at the Town Hall, in compliance with the Rating Act, 1876.”
The Foreman of Works’ report was road, recommending that a now pump be erected at the Pound similar to the ones now in use in other parts of the town.
It was resolved that this be done, that tenders be called for the work, and that the Works Committee be authorised to deal with such tenders. Accounts amounting to £l7B 12s lOd ■were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
