ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

TOWN EDITION.

Great excitement was created in Peeress Town this afternoon by the attempted suicide of a resident in that place. The particulars relating thereto are as follows: —The wife of a man named Laird, residing in one of the wharcs in Peeress Town had, during the past few days, behaved in a very strange and violent manner, and her behaviour last evening and this morning caused her husband to come into town to-day and lay an information regarding his belief in her insanity. A warrant was issued by the Resident Magistrate, and entrusted to Constable Sullivan for execution. After laying the information the man Laird returned to his home, and, on arriving there, discovered his wife in bed with her throat gashed across and blood issuing from the wound, which had evidently been inflicted by a table knife and was very deep. Dr Hogg was sent for, and was promptly in attendance, and dressed the wound, great ditliculty, however, being experienced in so doing, owing to the patient’s violence. The police oTiccr arrived a few seconds later, and after the woman had been attended to, ■requested her to dress and accompany him. This she persistently refused to do. Her language was very violent, and her behaviour such as to prevent any of the neighbors entering the room. Finally the loss of blood consequent on her struggles, caused a relapse, and during this time the woman was removed to the hospital where she was placed under proper supervision. TYc learn that the wound although severe is not considered dangerous.
