MAGISTERIAL.

TEMUKA—THIS DAY. [Before F. Guinness, Esq., B.M.] POLICE CASES. Joseph Harrop was charged with selling grog in quantities under two gallons under the Licensing Act of 1873, and Amendment Act of 1874. Inspector Pender appeared for the prosecution, Mr White and Air Austin for defendant. Percy F. Carlyon, sergeant of police, stated the case, and James Badford gave evidence that the goods were supplied in mixed quantities, but Mr White contended that the Acts of 1873 and 1874 could not apply, and raised a fatal objection by producing the Distillation Act, 1878, under which the defendant was licensed. The case was consequently dismissed. A case of indecent assault was heard with closed doors. The evidence was unfit for publication, and the information was eventually withdrawn.
