TIMARU ATHLETIC CLUB.
SPOUTS MEETING-. The sports meeting in connection with the Timaru Athletic Club took place to-day on the Caledonian Society’s grounds, and was very well attended. The course was laid out on the northern side of the ground, and owing to this fact several of the non-speculative portion of the public obtained a gratis view of the events, by seating themselves on the rails of Messrs Maclean and Stewart’s cattle pens. The ground was very bad, and consequently the “light weights” were most favored thereby. Mr Hichmond, of the Melville Hotel, provided refreshments for those whose palates had been irritated by the dusty nor’-wester; whilst Mr liitchic dispensed sweet and wholesome luxuries in a temperance booth. The Committee throughout the day worked in a most assidious manner, and fully deserved the undoubted success which rewarded their efforts. Appended are the results of the various events: — Maiden Plate, 100yds. Ist prize, £1 10s; 2nd, £1; 3rd, 10s. J. Shepherd (Timaru) 1 J. Dalgleish (Oamaru) 2 A. D. Smith (Oamaru) 3 A grand race.
