Auckland, Nov. 9. A fatal accident occurred on Saturday afternoon. While George Day and his four sons were bringing down a boatload of firewood from Kauri Point to Auckland a squall struck the boat and the father and one son were drowned. A girl named Quinan, 18 years old, was found to have been confined in an authorise and the child was discovered in the cesspool. A post mortem examination of the body of the infant takes place to-morrow. The Auckland Volunteers left early this morning for the Thames and were warmly welcomed by the Thames Volunteers on their arrival.’ Wellington, Nov. 7. Christopher Connell formerly second officer of the barque Western Belle, was committed for trial to-day on the charge of having committed an unnatural offence on two occasions. The ship Wairoa has been admitted to pratique to-day. Nov. 9. A man named Horace Ford, a wellknown hotel-keeper of Napier, died suddenly at the Commercial Hotel yesterday. An inquest is not likely to be necessary. Chbistchuech, Nov. 8. The body of the second of the two fishermen drowned in Lake Ellesmere on Sept. 4th, was found yesterday on the shore of the lake in a mutilated condition. An open verdict was returned. Invebcaegill, Nov. 9. The Mataura arson case was called at the Police Court on Saturday morning, and further adjourned for eight days on the application of the Police. Inspector Fox, in applying for the remand, remarked that the case was only in its infancy.
