Edgar Osborne, a young man, son of a well-known resident, was charged at the Resident Magistrate’s Court to-day with setting fire to Hales store a few days ago. £h(? evidence its far u it TTWt
showed that Osborne had been seen near the place about the time of the fire and afterwards showing traces of tar, and with his dress in a disorded condition. The case was adjourned after the Court had sat till past five o’clock* It is a curious thing that among the undoubted cases of fire raising during the past year, is one in which an upholsterer’s place was destroyed, and another in which a determined attempt was made to burn down a similar establishment, Osborne’s father being in the same trade. Osborae is known to the police as a reckless young scamp, and it was not long ago that he got into trouble in a night brawl, Dunedin, Nov. 6.
