Gisborne, Nov. 3. A public meeting will be held, at which a resolution will be passed calling upon Mr McDonald to support the present Ministry or resign. Wellington, Nov. 3.
Should the weather continue favorable it is expected the work of reparing the cable will be finished to-morrow evening. Saunders’ tender of £86,700 for the first section of the West Coast railway has been accepted. This will alleviate all distress as present prevalent in this city. Yesterday morning, while dressing himself, the Rev. C. Dallaston indulged in a heavy yawn and immediately discovered that his lower jaw was a fixture. On medical assistance being procured, it is was found that the case was one of mild lock-jaw. Though no personal inconveniences need be apprehended, the result was that the rev. gentleman was unable to preach yesterday, and will probably be unable to lecture as announced to-morrow evening.
Tlic racing privileges to-day fetched £607, which shows an increase of £B3, with two confectioners’ booths still to dispose of. The show privileges however only brought £324 10s showing a falling off of £lol 10s. Oamabit, N ov. 3. A man named Thompson, alias McGregor, was sent to gaol for six weeks to-day for vagrancy. McGregor has for some weeks been assiduously following the occupation of begging, the proceeds of which have been presumably spent in drink. Dunedin, Nov. 3. During the month of October 1244 persons arrived at, and 101 persons departed from the Port of Otago. While driving alon Albert street this afternoon, Dr Maunsell was thrown out of his buggy, and the horse kicked him. He was picked up and cenveyed to his home, where several members of the medical fraternity attended to him. He is severely bruised, but no bones are broken.
