x .shortly before five o'clock this evening a eon of Mr Chisholm of the Bank of New Zealand fell off the breakwater into the sea The lad was fishing and over balanced himself. Several of the bystanders jumped into the w >ter and rescued the boy who was none the worse for his docking. We learn that the contract for the build' ing of an additional iron surf* boat for the Government Service, now under the super' \ Hon of the Harbor Board, extends for two months, and the boat will therefore be in use in good time fob the grain season. We are informed that the banquet and presentation ceremony, in connection with the conclusion of No. 1 contract of the Timaru breakwater, wiT take place on Friday next Nov. 7th at 1 o clock, and not on Monday next, as stated by our morning contemporary. We have been shown a model of a rustic garden seat manufactured by Mr H. Dupree. 'J he design is exceedingly neat and wc'l adapted for the purposes for which it N made. The members of the Timaru Volunteer Fire Brigade held an ordinary mouthy meeting and practice la at evening. The meeting was presided over by the captain and the following business was transacted: —1. Receipt of subscrip'ions to Sick anH Accident Fund. 2 Notice of motion. 3. Appointment of a Committee re hose practice- 4. Election of new members. In re ation to No, 2 it was resolved that any rejected candidate shall not be eligible for nomination again wi'hia three months of his rejection, a Committee was appointed as mentioned in No 3 and the election of one new member terminated the proceedings The Mou h Canterbury Caledonian So* ciety he'dan ordinary adjourned mee'ing in the G. osvenor hotel last evening.
