War on waffle

An anti-waffle clause was added to a resolution passed by the Ruapehu District Council at their June meeting. Councillors agreed to include time at the start of each meeting in future, to allow for verbal reports from councillors about recent activities in their respective wards. But added to the resolution was a rider that the idea be trialled for three months and then reassessed, and that the reports amount to no more than 10 minutes at each meeting. "I already have to give up my time to come here and listen to a lot of waffle and I don't want to listen to any more than I have to," said Cr Graeme Cosford in moving the amendment.
