No extra funds for Raetihi information centre

An application for additional funding of $5000 towards the $10,800 already allocated to run the Raetihi Information Centre has been declined by the Ruapehu District Council. The request for the additional funding had come

about when it was discovered that, following a recent change of staff, the centre had been paying belowaward rates. The information centre 's operating grant from the council has not been increased for the past four

years while the use of the centre has been steadily increasing over the same period. Crs Bob Peck and John Compton spoke out strongly in support of the information centre but the motion was lost.
