At its meeting on Friday 27 June 1997 Council resolved that for the 1998 government elections it will retain its existing representation. That is: 1 The Council be elected by the electors of five wards 2 The five wards retain the same boundaries as set in 1 989 3 The number of members to be elected by the electors of each ward to be as follows: Ohura 2 Taumarunui 5 National Park 2 Waimarino 3 Waiouru 2 Total membership (excluding Mayor) 14 The Council is satisfied that the existing wards will provide effective representation for communities of interest with the District. 4 The Council has taken into account the area and the rateable land value of each ward in addition to population in determining equitable representation. In a District as large and diverse as this one it considers it inappropriate to rely on population alone as being the basis for election. 5 The ratio of Councillors to population in each ward is stated to be as follows: Ohura 1/940 Taumarunui 1/1463 National Park 1/550 Waimarino 1/1297 Waiouru 1/1278 A copy of the resolution and a map of existing ward boundaries are available for inspection at the Council offices and iibraries during normal business hours.
