Waimarino Golf

Queen's Birthday weekend saw a lot of players out enjoying the course, casual players as well as the few serious. The Rangiwaeatrophy (a four ball best ball mixed) was played for. Players drew for partners, some luckier than others! Alan Murdie and Gillian White are the 1997 winners on +10, Paul Beckett and Nancy Winter, and Jason Whale and Heather

Cranston were second equal. The men not lucky enough to draw a woman partner played four ball best ball with Barry Drinkwater and Andrew Evans coming through on +15 (a good game by Andrew), second Wayne Marsh and Rod Wetering +9, third Chris Felton and Matt Mius +8. The club's visitor from Auckland for the day, Heather Eades, had a great score of 46. Report from 8 June: First medal was played on a brilliant day, some good scoring especially in the senior men with Trevor Barnard and Don Windle first on 68, D wayne Marsh 69, third Barry Drinkwater and John Mcllroy on 70, fourth Wayne Marsh and Ken Crossan on 71. Juniors: first John Eades on 69, second Matt Mius and Paul Beckett on 70. The ladies did not fare so well for the day, with one or two casualties along the way . Trish Mcllroy managing 37 followed by Goldie Fraser. Next Sunday is the Kennedy Cup, Town versus Country. Tee-off is 12.30 sharp, for ladies and men.
