Venturers soar

As part of their active and adventurous outdoor programme, the first three members of the Ohakune Venturer unit turned out to try their hands at gliding last Wednesday afternoon with Phil Gotlieb. A member of the Ruapehu Gliding Club initially at the controls, it was off up into the wild grey yonder where each of the Venturer scouts got to experience the exhilaration of rushing air and sweeping turns. Rebecca McMaster, Sarah Tumataroa and Joel Spry were all very enthusiastic to try it again sometime soon when the weather would allow a greater view of the Waimarino. Each week for the next three weeks the remaining Venturers all get a chance to try this thrilling, adrenalinrushing activity. Venturers, for those aged 14-18, have 10 members at present with more members welcome. Venturers' contact is Garry Godfrey, Venturer leader, ph 385-9028.
