• On Thursday evening a local man was warned for trespassing at the Ohakune Hotel. • A burglary reported to a house in Nei Street, Rangataua. This has occurred some time over the last five months and a large amount of property has been stolen. • At about 5.30am Saturday morning there was a smash and grab burglary at Wrightsons in Raetihi. A quantity of swandris and other clothing was stolen. • On Sunday afternoon a house in Plunket Street, Raetihi was broken into and two bottles of spirits and a video camera stolen. • There was a minor crash on Lakes Road on Friday involving two vehicles. However, no injuries resulted. • Local police assisted in two operations on the mountain over the weekend of 17-18 May. On the Saturday evening two climbers were. injured after falling on ice. One climber broke his foot, the other managed to get down and raise the alarm. Turoa staff assisted in getting the ski lifts operating to get the other person down. On the same evening a search was started for two overdue climbers. They were located on Sunday, one having fallen and died, the other was uninjured. Police j thank all the volunteers who
assisted in these rescues. • There were several burglaries reported during the weekend of 17-18 May. A house in Raetihi Road was broken into Monday 12 May. Overnight Friday 16 May an implement shed on a rural property on SH49 was broken into and chainsaws, electric fence unit, spanner, socket sets and other tools stolen. On the same night a house in Queen Street, Raetihi, was broken into. Somefootwear was stolen and a trailer, registration number 4738B, parked beside the house was stolen. This may have been used to transport a Husqvarna ride-on mower, a wheel barrow and frozen food stolen from an address in Grey Street that night. Overnight Saturday a house in Duncan Street was broken into and a radio stolen. • A white Mitsubishi Mirage was unlawfully taken
from behind the Ohakune Hotel overnight on Saturday 17 May, later recovered on Rangataua Road with numerous items stolen from it. • A vehicle parked in Marino Street, Rangataua, had all its wheels stolen and about two cord of wood were stolen from behind a Nei Street address. • Several cases of wilful damage were reported. A Mitsubishi Pajero parked in Tainui Street had its tyres slashed, a shop in Raetihi had a window smashed on Tuesday night and a panel van parked in Queen Street had its tyres slashed.
