Bridge

The cards at bridge on Wednesday night favoured the north-south pairs with the majority of those being played by south. One hand ,which got south' s adrenalin going was a hand which potentially contained slam, and which

was bid by all concerned, but saw bidder going two or three tricks light. However, ajudicious diamond lead by south at the right moment could have restricted the loss to only one. Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing! The race for dominance north-south was close fought with Ron Frew and Brian Eades sharing the first place at the end of the evening with Ron Martin and Heather Cranston. However handicapping saw them relegated to third and second places with scores , of 5 1.86% and 44.08%. The overall winners were Pauline Le Noel and Bob Tumataroa on 53.16%. John and Sandra Eades were too good for their eastwest competition winning with 6 1 . 0 1 % ahead of Sarah Hamlin and Gloria King on 53 .49% and Mark Hays and George Drayton finishing in third after relegation on 53.04%.
