Eye on Ruapehu College

Ruapehu College' s new school term started with a special Anzac service attended by the Waiouru Army Camp Commander Colonel Marshall. The Colonel presented the school with a $5000 cheque to be spent on learning resources. • The Junior Council was elected by the students. Brendon Morgan, the student Board of Trustees representative, coordinated the election. • Nga Manu Korero speech competitions were held at the school last week. Extensive carpeting was also carried out and reroofing of the main block •

The school competes against other schools and companies in a nationwide competition to market underpants known as "Tukupants". Champagne Consultants run this competition with a computer being the main prize. The students in this year's team are Steven Sue, Michael Prads and Neil Bradley. • The school sent a team of golfers to the Manawatu- Wanganui regional inter-secondary school golfing competition at Marton on Thursday. The team members were Sarah Lind, Dwayne Marsh, Brian Hays, Andrew Evans and Jenny Murdie. • The school heard of a former student' s success in assembly on Friday when news was read of Phillip Kerr, who topped his class at Tasmania's Maritime College. He has collected postgraduate awards for his efforts. • On Wednesday 7 May, a cross country race will be run. All students are to take part and the running starts at 11.30. After the races are over the Trans Rail Rescue Helicopter will land the school for a demonstration. Some students will be selected to ride in the helicopter on the day at 2.45pm.
