First week fun for Waiouru holidays
With the first three activities completed, the Waiouru Holiday Programme has experienced a good show of interest by the local children. Community services officer Ken Morton said the trip to the AC Baths in Taupo had been the major attraction for the week with 90 children going on the bus trip last Thursday. With admission to the pool and the slide being met through funding agencies and the buses donated by Army, the outing was relatively inexpensive for the children. Indoor Cricket in Palmerston North, movies at the camp cinema and a pet parade in the Community Centre were also very popular. Next week's activities have already received some interest with registration numbers looking good. It is expected that touch football will attract up to four teams while the favourite toy show should be a drawcard for the younger children. Unfortunately , the bus trip to the Makino Aquatic Centre in Fielding has had to be cancelled as movement of soldiers for Anzac Day activities has meant that the buses are no longer available.
