Following Ruapehu deputy mayor Bob Peck's apology to John McCarthy of the council lobby group, the 'Think Tank' , the Bulletin would like it known that it was not our intention to embarrass Mr Peck nor Mr McCarthy. In publishing the comments, which I maintain were not 'off the record', we intended to explore the issue of whether the Think Tank's views are representative of the wider community. No offence was intended, nor predicted. We did not intend to see the debate "personalised", but we do think that gauging the amount of support behind the Think Tank is important. We believe the issues are: whether Waimarino people are dissatisfied with the council's performance and how widespread such dissatisfaction is; and whether the views expressed are valid. We aaree that the debate should not become personal.
