College report

Ruapehu College is having its annual summer sport exchange with Taihape College today. Sports being played are touch rugby for boys and mixed teams, boys and girls cricket and tennis. Games start at 1 1 am. All are welcome to go and support the college. • A parent/teacher evening is being held on Wednesday 5 March at the College. All parents are encouraged to attend. A selection of library books are available for parents to purchase to donate to the library. • A workday is planned for Tuesday 1 8 March. This is an opportunity for students to earn money for a school project. The student council is discussing projects for these funds. Those who can offer students a day's work, are asked to contact the College. • Swimming sports were held last Tuesday at the Waiouru swimming pool. Tui won the swimming sports points competition, Weka were second and Kiwi a close third, while Huia brought up the rear. A great day was had by all. Results: Senior boys - 1st J Mackay, 2nd P Maxwell, 3rd D Forster; Intermediate boys - 1 st S Hammond, 2nd K McDonagh, 3rd R Ormond; Junior boys - 1st K McPherson, 2nd P Iterewini, 3rd H Tangiora. Senior girls - 1 st R Tehuia, 2nd S Lind, 3rd S Mackay; Intermediate girls - 1st T Richards, 2nd M Mowat, 3rd K Clark; Junior girls- 1 st C Donaldson, 2nd C Rothschild, 3rd S Sue. • Richard Bryce, the new graphics and metalwork teacher, arrived from the Shetland Islands on Saturday and began teaching on Monday. He is enjoying the change of temperature and the opportunity to swim.
