Air rescue services status quo remains
Air rescue services in the Waimarino are unlikely to be carried out by the Waimarino Helicopter Rescue Trust and Wanganui Aero Works. Recently, Good Health Wanganui 's board reversed a decision to support the Tranz Rail Rescue Helicopter as preferred provider of air rescue services, instead favouring the service provided by Wanganui ^ero Works. Ho wever, board chairman Denis Woods told the Bulletin last week that ;his support was "unlikely to affect the Waimarino".
He said that because St John Ambulance in Palmerston North make the decisions on who to call out, it was unlikely that the Waimarino would be affected by the board' s decision. But he said he hoped that St John would give consideration to the Aero Work approach. He added that circumstances that made choosing WAW as the first choice operator would depend on the establishment of protocols, agreement with St John Ambulance, geographical locations, availability of aircraft and need.
