Bigger and better Desert Gala planned

A change of venue will see a bigger and brighter Waiouru Desert Gala for 1997, organisers promise. Committee spokesman Ken Morton said there will be activities galore with a wider range of stalls and activities at the gala, to be held Saturday 8 March. On the same day the increasingly popular W aiouru 1 0' s rugby tournament wi 11 be played and the Queen Elizabeth II Army Memorial Museum will host an activities day. With all three events held at adjacent venues people will be able to plan an interesting and varied day out, said Mr Morton. A selection of fairground

rides and sideshows will be at the Desert Gala '97 and they will be compliment by a large number of stalls selling a wide variety of products. In addition to the static displays of Army vehicles and equipment an interesting range of activities for all age groups is planned. There will be a "kiddie disco" for the tiny tots and a Mr Puny contest for young men. Applications for stall sites close on Friday 31 January while the Waiouru
