Schools in line
Waimarino schools' holidays are in line with the rest of the country follo wing the Ministry of Education's standardisation this year. Teachers and parents see shorter terms as being in the interest of improved student learning, said ministry senior pianager Kathy Phillips. Uniform school dates are also helpful in the planning of community and education events, she added. Primary schools will
have four terms of approximately ten weeks each while secondary schools will observe the same dates except their fourth term will be seven school days shorter. The only time a board of trustees may need to vary a school's term dates will be at the end of term four. The following dates have been set for 1997 by the Minister of Education: Primary Schools In 1997 each primary school must be open for in-
struction for 394 half-days. Term 1 : Monday 27 January - Friday 1 1 April Term 2: Monday 28 April - Friday 4 July Term 3: Monday 21 July - Friday 26 September Term 4: Monday 13 October - Wednesday 17 December or to a day in December which ensures that the school has been open for instruction for, 394 half days. Secondary and composite schools In 1997 each secondary and composite school must be open for instruction for 380 half-days.
