Ruapehu students win study awards
Ruapehu College student Charmain Oh, Victoria Duigan and Amy Smith are the recipients of this year's annual ECNZ study awards. Charmain, who' s been working p[art time at the Army Museum, is keen to pursue a medical degree from Otago Uni versity in 1 997 specialising in paediatrics, oncology. "Children" she says "are an important part of our future and I love children". Charmain' s interests include sports as player, coach and referee. The highlight of her sporting achievements to date has been to represent New Zealand at the Australian. All Schools Track and Field Athletics Championsh'ips in 1 993. She has also been on the student council, a member of the debating team and a founder member of the school non violence committee. Victoria Duigan is aiming for a career in law through Victoria University of Wellington. "Life is what you make of it" say s Victoria about her personal philosophy, "you get out what you put in, through hard work, courage, determination and enjoyment". Victoria translates that philoso-
phy into a balanced lifestyle which involves her in horseriding, aerobics, mountain biking and researching her family history. She also manages to work part time to save towards the cost of her future studies. Victoria aims to own her own law firm with a specialisation in intemational and commercial law. The third recipient of the awards is Amy Smith who intends to go to either Massey of Waikato University to major in business studies. Amy believes "a sound business degree will maximise my chances of gaining a self satisfying, worthwhile paid job that is of benefit to me and hopefully to society also." Amy recently had a taste of the competitive nature of the business world by entering the National Business Review Business Management Game. the team narrowly missed a place in the national finals. ECNZ Central Generation Group Manager Dennis Allan said the calibre of the students put forward for the awards was high and ECNZ staff wished the students every success in their future endeavours.
